About 2.5 km away from Ooty on the Conoor road is an old British Raj mansion; a most unexpected place to find the great detective Sherlock Holmes.

As you climb up and away from the hustle-bustle of Ooty, Sherlock comes as a pleasant surprise. You leave behind the noises of a town and here at Sherlock the silence is broken only by the wind flowing through the valley, the leaves rustling sweet nothings, the flowers smiling up at you and the sun shining down on you.

Sherlock is an old mansion retaining its old world charm and warm fire places. The folk make you feel at home with beaming smiles and ready service. I found Sherlock to be a place to catch up on life, to put my feet up and let the rat-race rush on. Sitting out on the lawn with my coffee I felt I wanted to just stay here and watch life slip past with its demands and worries.

There is so much to do here and yet the urge to just laze about is overpowering. The place is not only named after Sherlock but has a sense of his presence everywhere. The warm and spacious rooms are named after Holmes adventures and each room has a bit of the adventure in it. The lounge has books and quotes on Holmes besides welcoming couches. Its an excellent place to curl up with a Holmes mystery by a warm fire place in the evening. The dinning room is named after Irene Adler; Sherlock's perfect woman. There is also a little sun room which I would strongly recommend for lunch with a spot of sun.

Sherlock is a place to unwind and let nature and the old world charm work its magic over you.
