Chase The Sun – Sunset Bay
..............................................................................................................................................
Half an hour’s drive away from the chaotic Bangalore-Mysore highway lies respite – Sunset Bay. Located at a temptingly small distance of 140 Km from Bangalore, this place is a quick and ideal getaway from the mad rush of city life.
Sprawled along the banks of the reservoir of the KR Sagar Dam near Mysore, Sunset Bay is a quiet haven close to the city where one can relax and unwind. The place, perfectly named, affords a fantastic view of the sunset from across the reservoir, which is not to be missed. There are four rooms and four tree-houses at Sunset Bay, each with its own sit-out facing the water and ideal for relaxing as you drink in the view. You can enjoy the water better by kayaking or in a coracle or just lazing by the banks in a bid to catch a fish or two.
As dusk falls, you can snuggle your feet by the bonfire and sip on your wine while you stargaze in the wide open sky above Sunset Bay. Dinner is a simple yet satiating affair in the verandah of the main cottage. As a day of peace and quiet comes to a close, you can retire to the comfort of your room. The rooms are minimally yet tastefully decorated and well equipped with double-beds, blankets, wardrobes and attached bathrooms, which are well provided with. If you would like to read a bit before dozing off, you can switch on the reading lights and enjoy yourself.
Hot water is available for a refreshing bath in the morning. Do catch a glimpse of the numerous birds which hover around the lake in the mornings while you walk in the surrounding area before catching up for breakfast. Breakfast is simple too, yet does not leave you wanting. Do give your daily cuppa of tea or coffee a miss for a refreshing glass of passion fruit juice to complete the first meal of the day.
The renowned Brindavan Gardens are a few minutes walk from Sunset Bay while Mysore city itself is not too much farther. That makes Sunset Bay ideal as a base to explore Mysore from instead of the overcrowded and trite city hotels.
Overall, Sunset Bay is a good place to spend some quiet time away from the city without travelling too much and is recommended. The owner Nikesh is a great host and along with his staff he will ensure that you have a comfortable stay.
Note:
Do carry your own liquor during the stay.
Mosquitoes are abundant in the area due to proximity to water, especially in the evening. Though all the rooms have been provided with mosquito repellent, do take repellent lotion for use while you enjoy the bonfire in the open.
