About the trip

A 1000 years old tradition defines ‘competition’ in a way you wouldn’t have seen before! Wet paddy fields and some mighty buffaloes– it’s going to be cut throat!
Guided by an instructor, get a comprehensive understanding of SLR photography through class-room sessions interspersed with field exercises & a detailed review. The endeavour is to leave you absolutely confident with basics of capturing light, composition, framing and more!

 

 

(You could also sign up to the photo tour which will not include the workshop - for photographers who want to experience the event)

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive early morning on this day to Udipi or Mangalore. All of you who will be taking a flight (or in some cases trains) will have to land up in Mangalore. We can help you arrange a cab from the airport/ station to get to the place where we will be staying. Get in touch separately for this one. Many of you who might be travelling from Bangalore, the night Volvos are a good bet. You can get down at Udipi (buses reach at about 5.30 a.m) and we can help arrange for a pick up again.  If there is a substantial amount of people from Bangalore, we will hire a Tempo Traveller to pick you up. Destination – Yermal! This is a 40 mins ride away!
This little sea-side place will be home for the next two days! Rooms will be on twin sharing basic (gender wise). If you want to have a room to yourself, let us know in advance (there will be an up-charge to accommodate this).
We start the workshop right away so that you are all prepared to capture the event the next day! It will be a mix of class-room sessions, field exercises and a review session at night. Look forward to a long day ahead.
Please note, that the meals will be veg!

Day 2

Let’s not miss an early morning next to the sea! Wake up to see the fresh catch coming in (we will be quite close to a fishing village)!
Post breakfast, we leave for Nandi Kur, where the race will be held for the weekend! We settle in at our spots and catch all the action! The energy will be palpable – 100s of buffaloes and even more locals coming in from nearby villages to watch the annual event! This is going to be a haven of photo-opportunities – people cleaning the buffaloes, decorating them, the race itself, audience…
Please note that it’s going to be quite hot in the day! Lots of water and protection from the sun! We can choose to stay here as long as you like – the event goes on till the night. Nandi Kur is just 8 kms away from where we will be staying, so we can also go back and rest and then come in again in the evening! This will be decided as per enthusiasm levels!
Lunch will be organized as ‘carry- somethings’!

Day 3

This day, we can wake up a little late and get in for the review session of the pictures taken at the event! A good day to spend individual time with the instructors and resolve queries! We will close the session by lunch so people can head back towards Mangalore/ Udipi for their return journey.
We will arrange for one drop depending on the majority of people. If your timings so not match with that, we can help arrange a pick up for you at an additional cost. We will discuss this at the time of registering!
